Part One starts with the relationship with your Imprint hawk before, during and after artificial insemination. Continuing with egg laying, incubation, hatching and mother caring for chick up to twelve days old: this is a privileged view into part of a goshawk’s life rarely seen. Collecting the semen from the male goshawk is also shown before insemination.
At twelve days the chick is taken into the house to be imprinted and this is when you must ensure that you have plenty of time to spare. (Dual Imprinting is also mentioned briefly as an option if you have your own imprint breeding female). Handling and management of the young hawk at this stage is crucial to accustom him to the human way of life. Lure training is shown to be a vital part of your hawk’s education.
The final section shows interaction with our dogs, guests and first flight achieved . The hawks you will see in the film are: Sheigra, Nomad, Buzz and Bow. But for the purpose of all the outdoor filming we call our subject Buzz, who plays the main part.
